Melvin Styburski

Melvin E. Styburski, 83, of St. Joseph passed away Saturday October 23,2010 at Lakeland Hospital –St. Joseph Melvin was born September 29, 1927 son of Casimer and Martha (Vandermolen) Styburski in Benton Harbor. He went to school at St. John Catholic School. Mel Joined the Air Force in 1946 and met his future wife, Camilla Ann Tucker, while stationed at Davis Monthon Air Force base in Tucson, Arizona. They were married on September 29, 1947. He is survived by his wife, their five children- Doran of Austin, TX., Paul (Lola) of Benton Harbor, Lloyd of Watervliet, Ellen (Kenneth) Woods of Coloma and Kim of Decatur; four grandchildren- DeAnn Rose, Mitzi (Tim) Jones, Jeremiah and Sarah Styburski; three great-grandchildren- Garrett, Jake and Ashlee Jones; his sister Donna Bender of St. Joseph, and a long time family friend, Tom Franceschini. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Brian, and a sister, Frances Hettinger. He worked at Whirlpool for 39 years, retiring October 1, 1986. He loved farming, hunting, playing cards and bowling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #4055 of Watervliet. He was a wonderful husband of 63 years, father, grandfather and brother. He and his wife liked to travel and do many things with their family. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, with prayers Services at 7:30 PM, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home , 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday, officiated by Father William Jacobs, Jr., at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 555 Delaware, Benton Harbor. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Benton Harbor, with military rites conducted. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lakeland or Michigan Parkinson's Foundation.
