Richard Winfield Smedley

Richard “Dick” Smedley, 77, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at his home in St. Joseph, surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph; with Burial to follow at Riverview cemetery with military rites conducted. Friend may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. He was a graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. in Metallurgy in 1954, where he was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. He served his country in the United Stated Air Force from 1954 to 1957. On August 12, 1961 he married Patricia Verbonse at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lockport IL He worked at Palisades Power Plant as manager of technical specifications conversion project when he retired in 2000 and was a member of Professional Engineer Assoc. He also enjoyed Boating and Fishing. He is survived by his wife Patricia of St. Joseph; a brother Gerald Smedley of Omaha, NE; nephew Jeffery Smedley of Tampa FL; niece Jennifer Smedley of Venice Beach CA; mother-in-law Caroline Meagher of Lockport IL; sister-in-law Wayne (Judy) Waddell of Lockport, IL; nephew Jeffery (Sarah) Waddell; great nephews Justin & Ryan Waddell and a special friend Daisy
