Judith's Obituary

Sawyer – Judith (Judy) Stephens DeVore, 65, of Sawyer, Michigan passed away late in the evening on June 9, 2010, after a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Judy was born to Kenneth and Frances Stephens on June 12, 1944 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in nursing, she was committed to caring for others in her career as a nurse at Michael Reece Hospital, Goldberg, Lesser & Braun Pediatric Associates, and Matteson Elementary School. She was an active member and President of the PTO at Matteson Elementary School. A celebration of her life is from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, MI. During her life, Judy touched many people with her kind and giving nature. She was always willing to lend a hand or an ear to anyone in need. Through charitable giving and missionary travel, Judy helped care for and educate less fortunate children in Africa. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and reading; but most of all, she was passionate about her family. Over the past 13 years, Judy was dedicated to spending time with her grandchildren; they were the light of her life. Judy is survived by her husband, Phil; brother, Kenneth; children, Scott (Stacy) and Amy Boyett (Shane); and grandchildren, Stephen and Kaitlyn Boyett, Lexi and Ryan DeVore.
