Virginia Olson Seeder

Virginia Olson Seeder, 90, of St. Joseph, formerly of Sawyer, passed away Thursday, July 08, 2010 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:30 P.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Thom Christie officiating. Private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Three Oaks. Friends may call from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Virginia was born March 2, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to Victor E. & Amanda (Carlson) Charn. She graduated from New Troy High School in 1937. Virginia was employed at Olson's Grocery in Sawyer, and it was there that she met her future husband, John H. Olson. They were married on October 24, 1942. Virginia spent the next 35 years being a wife, mother and grandmother, and following the death of her husband in November 1977, returned to work force at Harbert Swedish Bakery. In 1985, Virginia married Herbert Seeder. He preceded her in September 1997. She was a member of Harbert Community Church, and in her spare time enjoyed flower gardening, feeding and watching birds, and traveling. Virginia resided the last eight years at Lakeland Continuing Care Center. The staff and residents there became her second family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Virginia is survived by her children-John (Kim) Olson of Sawyer, Cynthia (Marty) Knuth of Sawyer, Celeste (Thom) Christie of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren-Brenda, Gregory, Joshua, Erick, April, Sarah, Evan, Todd; eight great-grandchildren-Connor, Lindsay, Lily, Ava, Violet, Drew, Anthony, Lexie; two brothers-in-law-Bud Lindquist of Harbert, Al Schaffer of Ramona, CA; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her two husbands, Virginia was preceded in death by two sisters-Lillian Schaffer in May, and Arlene Lindquist in June of 2010.
