St. Joseph, MI. – Delores C. Ober, 90, of St. Joseph, Michigan, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in the comforting care of Lakeland Hospice. The arrangements are entrusted with Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Charles Ober and Augusta (Richter) Ober on February 18, 1920 and moved to Chicago in 1938. Delores went to work for Carson, Pirie, Scott & Co. as a jewelry buyer in 1960 and retired in 1985. After retirement, she pursued a passion for world travel, and moved to St. Joseph in 2005 to be closer to family. Delores was a voracious reader, sometimes reading 10 or more books a week. While living in Chicago she volunteered at the Rogers Park Library. Her favorite books were mysteries brought to her recently by the helpful staff of the Lincoln Township Library. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Deegan; nephew, Terry (Kathy) Deegan of St. Joseph; grandnieces, Laura (William) Coffman and Jennifer Mason; grandnephews, Thomas (Stephanie) and Kevin Deegan; and six great-grandnieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at a date t be scheduled. “Aunt Lorrie” will always be remembered as someone that loved to help others, and always had a kind word for everyone.
