Bridgman, MI. – Edward Paul Kasischke, 80, of Bridgman, MI., died on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Jordan's Nursing Home. A celebration of his life will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. The family has requested that all memorial contributions may be given to Berrien Community Foundation – Jameson Gargano Fund.
Edward was born on September 16, 1929 in St. Joseph, MI, to Paul and Anna (Poschke) Kasischke. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Kasischke. He later married June Watt on April 18, 1987 in St. Joseph, MI. She survives.
Ed spent ten years in the United States Air Force, living and working in Germany, France, Luxembourg and Louisiana. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office in Grand Rapids, MI, until his retirement in 1984. He was known and loved for his kindness and sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his daughter, Laura (Bill) Abernethy of Chelsea, MI, step-daughter, Nancy (Charles) Gargano of Stevensville, MI, grandson, John “Jack†Abernethy, brother, Earl (Joan) Kasischke of Benton Harbor, MI and a sister, Elna Grau of St. Joseph, MI. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon Kasischke.
