Jon's Obituary

Jon K. Nichols, 77, of St. Joseph, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, with his loving family at his side on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd. in Stevensville. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran School Tuition Assistance Program or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Those wishing to sign the Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Jon was born April 18, 1933 in Berrien Springs to Charles & Burnette (Crose) Nichols. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jon started his career in law enforcement with the City of St. Joseph Police Department, where he was employed for several years before joining the Berrien County Sheriff Department. He retired as Captain of Detectives in 1991 after 28 years of service. On January 1, 1994, he married Kathleen Staude in St. Joseph. Jon was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stevensville. Jon is survived by his wife Kathleen; his daughter Rachel and ‘son” Chris Martini of Seattle, WA; his brother Frank Nichols of Columbus, OH; and numerous other family & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Charles Nichols.
