Larry Eugene Gunkel

Stevensville, MI. – Larry Eugene Gunkel, 52, of Stevensville, MI., passed away at his home on Sunday, May 2, 2010. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. The internment will be at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. The family has requested that memorial contributions be given to Lincoln Firefighters. Larry was born on August 25, 1957 in St. Joseph, MI to Marlin and Dorothy (Layman) Gunkel. He married Colleen Nozicka on May 2, 1989 in Stevensville, MI. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for 37 years at the Chalet's on the Lake in Stevensville and served on Tri-Unit Station 1 in Lincoln Township. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a graduate of Lakeshore High School, Class of 1975. Larry is survived by his wife, Colleen and his two sons, Jeremy and Jeff Gunkel of Stevensville. He is also survived by his three sisters, Karen (John) Heckert of Stevensville, Diana (John) Thomas of Cary, IL, Julie (Ron) Burkett of Stevensville and his brother, Gary (Marie) Gunkel of Bridgman, MI.
