Alvina A. Strunk

Benton Harbor, MI – Mrs. Alvina Strunk, 91 of Benton Harbor, MI, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 7, 2010. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Market St., St. Joseph, MI. A visitation will be held at the church on the same day from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Sodus, MI. The arrangements are with Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Alvina was born on February 3, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Michael and Natalie (Maier) Pechtel. She married William H. Strunk on February 25, 1939. For many years she volunteered for the cancer society, was a member of the Shang-hi mothers club and loved knitting hats, scarves and lap robes for nursing centers and the Salvation Army. She loved picking all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially strawberries. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. Alvina is survived by her her husband, William and her three children, Andriette Dryden of Ann Arbor, MI, William Strunk of Berrien Center, MI and Allen (Diane) Strunk of Augusta, GA, granddaughter, Noel (David) Minger, great grandson, Jacob, step grandson, Jason (Pamela) White and three step great grandchildren, brother Gerald (Donna) Pechtel, sisters, Flora Hauch and Ethel (Deane) Wheeler and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Pechtel, sisters Donna Merrill and Natalie Pechtel. Her son-in-law, Ronald Dryden, daughter-in-law Diann Strunk and a great granddaughter, Olivia Minger.
