Doris A. Hetherington

Doris A. Hetherington, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away at home on Sunday, January 10, 2010. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Marlo Fritzke officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 12 at the funeral home. Doris was born on February 4, 1922, to Carl and Hazel (Avery) Polmanteer in Keeler Township, MI. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1939. She married Ralph W. Hetherington in Las Vegas, NV, on July 19, 1942. Doris was employed at the former Remington Rand Company in Benton Harbor and Shepherd Casters in St. Joseph. She was a member of the St. Joseph United Methodist Church. Doris enjoyed reading, baking, and sewing. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling with them. She also enjoyed her luncheons with the “39er’s”, her classmates from high school. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Johnson of St. Joseph; grandchildren, David (Karli) Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Michael (Heather) Johnson, of Holt, MI, Daniela (Ronnie) Ferrell of Winter Garden, FL, and Marco (Michelle) Guarniere of Richmond, VA; great-grandchildren, Madison and Benjamin of Atlanta, Sarah, Mitchell and Evan of Holt, Dominic and Andrew of Winter Garden, Antonio of Richmond; and by her nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; daughter, Diana Guarniere; brothers, Merle Polmanteer, Virgil Polmanteer, Ted Polmanteer, Allan Polmanteer; and by a sister, Bernie Seils.
