Richard Eugene Krieger

RICHARD EUGENE KRIEGER, 84, of St. Joseph, Michigan, entered into eternal life to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, Michigan. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20th, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Friends may visit with family from 9 to 10 before the funeral. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Richard was born on December 20, 1925, in Benton Harbor, to Gustav and Augusta (Sommerfelt) Krieger. He lived in Benton Harbor/St. Joseph all of his life. He is survived by 5 nieces and 5 nephews: Robert (Diana) Slanker (Farwell, MI), Elaine (Noel) Ahlers (Hendersonville, NC), Darrel (Dee) Slanker (Farwell, MI), Judie (Don) Komraus (Vanderbilt, MI), Howard (Pamela) Kahne (St. Joseph), Lynn (John) Ort (Howell, MI), Mark Trussell (CA), Renee Cayo (Ooltewah, TN), Steven Cayo (Berrien Springs, MI), and Joy (Michael) Hartman(Paw Paw, MI). He is also survived by 23 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father (1948) and his mother (1981), his sisters: Edith Kahne, Bertha Cayo, Lydia Tiefenbach, Martha Slanker, Ruth Trussell; and his nieces and nephews: Carl Slanker, Diane Scepka, Karen Waldrop, Douglas Tiefenbach, David Tiefenbach. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School and attended South Bend Business College and worked in the accounting department of Industrial Rubber Company in St. Joseph for 25 years prior to his retirement. He loved going to family gatherings, gardening, planting of flowers and watching them grow and had a knack of cooking without using a recipe. He always had a positive outlook on life and was in good spirits. He attended First Church of God in St. Joseph and was grateful to his church family that reached out to him.
