Mildred's Obituary
Mildred I. Burkett, 95, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Lakeland Hospital.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 23, 2009 at Scottdale United Methodist Church, 4271 Scottdale Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Terry Schneider officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Run Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph. Mildred was born November 1, 1914 in Royalton Township to Robert & Emma (Richardson) Miller. On September 13, 1930 she married Nelson Burkett in South Bend. Mildred worked for Heath Co. for many years and retired in 1976. Mildred was a member and treasure of Scottdale United Methodist Church. She worked part-time at Rimes and enjoyed volunteering at Memorial Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, traveling and dancing and was part of the woman's society for the church.
Mildred is survived by her daughters Mary Lou Smith of Benton Harbor, Norma (Richard) LoCicero of Lake Ann, MI and son Richard (Nancy) Burkett of Baroda; 11 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Nelson; son Robert Burkett; daughter Linda Schoonover; and two brothers Lynn and Lavern Miller.
