Seymour's Obituary

Seymour Benjamin Zaban, 80, of Benton Harbor passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Ave, St. Joseph, with Rabbi Michael Rascoe officiating. Burial will be at B'nai Sholom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Temple B'nai Shalom, Hospice at Home or the Berrien County Cancer Service. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Seymour was born March 30, 1929 in Benton Harbor to Morris and Bessie (Glassman) Zaban. Seymour was a single native of Benton Township and received undergraduate and law degrees from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1953, he then served a hitch in the Army, where he was assigned to court martial work. He returned to Benton Harbor after his discharge and began private practice in September 1955. Seymour worked with the Prosecutors office, was a member of the safety committee of St. Joseph Township, the Stevensville American Legion, the Benton Harbor F.O.P., the Iowa and Michigan Bar Associations, lifetime member of the Berrien County Sherriff's Posse and the Benton Harbor Elks. Seymour enjoyed going to the fruit market, looking at prices and helping the friends of the Benton Harbor Fruit Market. He looked forward to his morning coffee group and enjoyed the Smokey Mountains and Northern Michigan. Survivors include his long time companion Connie Lind of St. Joseph, nephews Mike Buchinder of Benton Harbor and Steve Zaban of Lansing; niece Paula Hubbard of Round Lake, IL; brother-in-law Paul Abrams of Benton Harbor. Seymour was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold M. Zaban ; sisters Dorothy Abrams, Evelyn M. Zidman and Ruth E. Zaban
