Virginia's Obituary
Virginia L. DeFord, 80, of Stevensville, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at her home.
A Celebration of Life Eternal Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd., Stevensville, MI 49127. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Michigan Lutheran High School or Lakeland Hospice. Virginia L. (Kubath) DeFord was born on August 13, 1929 to Arthur and Ida (Roth) Kubath in Stevensville, MI. She was a graduate of Stevensville High School in 1947. After high school, she was a traffic manager for WHFB Radio. Recently, she was proud to celebrate her 80th Birthday with those she loved. Virginia married the love of her life, Donald on December 27, 1950 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville. Both Virginia and Donald were faithful members and volunteers at St. Paul’s. Together, they raised three children, Victoria, Richard and Jenine. They both co-owned and operated DeFord’s Carpet and Tile in Stevensville for 25 years. Virginia enjoyed bowling, playing the organ and puzzles. She loved music and spending time with all her many cats. Virginia was locally famous for her Chop Suey dish from miles around. She was an avid Detroit Tigers supporter throughout the years. Virginia was a caring and loving mother and grand mother. Most of all, Virginia will be remembered as devoted to her family, friends and all her adopted family.
Virginia is survived by her children, Victoria Lyn (Gregory Allen) Blevins of Crown Point, IN, Richard (Linda) DeFord of Geneva, AL, Jenine (Timothy) Kling of Hartford, MI; brother, Thomas A. (Marilyn) Kubath of Stevensville; grand-children, Stacy (Andrew) Hazard of Griffith, IN, Jamie Lynn DeFord of Troy, AL and Alexandra and Ashley Kling both of Hartford, MI; sister-in-laws, Glenda Willis, Bonnie (Bill) Zitta, and Madeline (Jerry) Windham; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald on March 14, 1988 and her parents, Arthur and Ida (Roth) Kubath. She will be deeply missed by all that loved her.
