Heinz's Obituary

Heinz F. Seltman, 79, of St. Joseph, Michigan passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009. Heinz was born on December 6, 1929 in Quirl, Germany to Fritz and Emma (Hnyk) Seltman. He immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1954, became a United States citizen in 1960 and lived in St. Joseph, Michigan his entire adult life. Heinz married Edith Natalie Gellert on April 24, 1954. He took wonderful care of her during a long illness late in her life and they are now dancing together in heaven. He was employed at Star Shade Cutter Company in St. Joseph, Michigan for over forty years prior to his retirement. Heinz was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was devoted to God and to his family. He was a member of the Oakridge Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Michigan where he sang in the Men’s Choir and served in many other capacities. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family and for his wonderful sense of humor that always brought a smile to everyone’s face. Survivors of Heinz include his four children – Robert F. Seltmann of St.Joseph, Karin S. (John) Fields of St. Joseph, Christina (Frank) Nails of Stevensville and Nancy J. (Steve Miller) Seltman of St. Joseph; four grandchildren – Sara M. Seltmann, Erica C. (Paul) Stokes, Jennifer E. Fields and Laura K. Fields, all of St. Joseph; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Bryant and Andrew Bryant; Heinz’ brother, Klaus (Meta) Seltmann of Stevensville, Michigan and a sister, Ursula Brinkmann of Germany. Heinz was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Edith, his parents, Fritz and Emma Seltmann, and by his grandson, David Seltmann Fields. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Starks-Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, Michigan. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Oakridge Baptist Church, 766 Oakridge Drive, St. Joseph, Michigan with Pastor Nicholas Jackson officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph, Michigan. Those wishing to share a memory or to sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
