Melvin Kurbis

Melvin E Kurbis Sr., 80, of Stevensville, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 3, 2009 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1947. On June 17, 1950 he married Bonnie (Marutz) Kurbis in St. Joseph. Melvin Worked for Paramount Die-casting as a supervisor for 36 Years. In his spare time he was an avid antique dealer and golfer. Mr. Kurbis is survived by his wife Bonnie Kurbis of Stevensville; five children Rick (Kathy) Kurbis of St. Joseph, Linda Salverson of Stevensville, Duane Duff Kurbis of Florida, Pamela Moore of Texas and Jay (Charlotte) Kurbis of Wheeler, IN; five grandchildren Jamie, Jeremy, Melissa, Krissy and Alexis; two sisters Elaine Hoover of Berrien Center and Betty Kurbis of Bridgman; one brother Rudy Kurbis of Branson, MO. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son Mel Kurbis Jr.; five brothers and sisters Norman, Irene, Elmer, Don, and Carol.
