Michael's Obituary

Michael French, 36, of Benton Harbor, passed away unexpectedly on Friday April 4, 2008 at home. A Celebration of his Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, April 7, 2008 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd, St. Joseph, with Pastor Wade Panse of St. Joseph United Methodist Chruch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or donor’s choice. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Michael was born to Billy French and Maria Amaya Martin on April 7, 1971 in St. Joseph. He was raised along with two sisters, Michelle and Rochelle. Michael was a welder at Vickers Engineering in New Troy, Michigan. Michael was a big supporter of any Michigan sports team particularly the University of Michigan Wolverines. He could often be found watching ESPN many times a day. Michael enjoyed bowling and golf with his long-time best friend Greg. Michael loved his family, particularly his daughter Leah. He cherished spending as much time with her as possible. He was looking forward to coaching Leah’s softball team. He is survived by his mother, Maria (Amaya) Martin of Benton Harbor; his daughter, Lea Zelmer-French, his sisters, Michelle French of St. Joseph, Rochelle French of Benton Harbor; his niece, Elena Lemons; his nephew, Alex Lockwitz and his best friend and brother for life, Greg Lalonde. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Billy G. French in 2000, and his grandparents.
