Through the Lords mercy, he allowed Brother Sommerfeld to reach the age of 86 years, calling him home on Monday, March 31, 2008. On June 14, 1946, in Germany, he married Caecilie Botterbusch. They immigrated to America in 1954, settling in Detroit, MI. Brother Sommerfeld pastored several german speaking Church of God congregations, including Detroit, MI, Hamilton Ontario, Canada, Benton Harbor, MI (1966-1977), and York, Nebraska. For the past 13 years they lived with their son Ralph, in New Buffalo. In deepest sadness and grief, he leaves behind his two sons, Juergen (Patty) Sommerfeld of Chesterfield Township, MI, and Ralph (Heidi) Sommerfeld of New Buffalo, MI; three grandsons, Stephan (Shannon) Sommerfeld of East Point, MI, Daniel (Kristen) Sommerfeld of St. Clair Shores, MI, and Aaron Sommerfeld of New Buffalo, MI; four great grandchildren, Bridget, James, Holly and Anthony; one brother, Reinhold Sommerfeld of Germany; many other relatives and friends; and his many brothers and sisters in the Lord in many congregations throughout North America and Germany. Brother Sommerfeld was preceded in death by his beloved parents-Gustav and Anna, and his loving wife Caecilie (2004). Now all of his earthly pains and worries have passed. He is forever with his Lord, and for eternity he is home. Thanks and praise be to God.
