Helen's Obituary

Helen Marie Brault, 78, of St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, in St. Joseph with Father Bill Jacobs officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to either the Hope Rescue Mission in South Bend, Animal Aid, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Those wishing to send the family a message of condolence may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Helen was born on August 28, 1929, in Thorold, Ontario, Canada. She was one of two children born to James and Rose Alexander. Helen graduated from High School at Lorreto Academy in Niagara Falls, Ontario. She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. On May 9, 1953, she married Charles Brault in South Bend, IN. Together they had five children, Charles, Barb, Cathy, Sue, and Pam. Helen worked for Lakeland Hospital as a nurse for over 25 years. Prior to retirement, she worked as the Relief Night Supervisor. Helen was an enthusiastic world traveler who visited such places as Ireland, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and to the Galapagos Islands. She loved nature and animals and being outdoors as she enjoyed kayaking and spending time at the family cottage. Most important to Helen was spending time with her family and particularly reading to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen is survived by her husband Charles; children, Charles (Cheryl) Brault of Stevensville, Barb (James) Jordan of Dallas, TX, Cathy (Mike) MacKenzie of St. Joseph, Pam (Mark) Williams of Richland, MI; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and by her brother, James (Betty) Alexander. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Sater.
