Bernice's Obituary

Bernice Schoenfelder, 86, of Stevensville, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30A.M., Friday, June 8, 2007, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd., Stevensville, with Rev. Gerald Schroer officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00P.M., Thursday, June 7, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Those wishing to sign the guestbook or share a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Bernice was born December 5, 1920 to Frank and Grace (Kolberg) Gaul in Stevensville. On April 9, 1944, she married Robert Schoenfelder. Bernice worked many years as Stevensville Village Clerk. She led a very active life, volunteering in many areas – including the Fireman’s Auxiliary, and most recently Hospice at Home and Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was a lifelong member at St. Paul’s Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and a member of the Ladies Aid. Bernice enjoyed hummingbirds, reading her bible, taking family pictures, and her daily walks around Stevensville. Bernice is survived by two sons, Ron Schoenfelder of Eau Claire, Steve (Moselle) Schoenfelder of Richland, MI; daughter Sue Zelvis of St. Joseph; and six grandchildren, Stacy, Kiley, Megan, Justin, Noah and Jarrod. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, and brothers Leon and Franklin Gaul.
