Eleanor's Obituary

Eleanor L. Skibbe, 92, of Stevensville, MI and formerly of Dowagiac, MI, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph, MI. A funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, MI. A gathering of family and friends will start at 10:30am prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be private at Pipestone Twp. Cemetery. Eleanor was born February 1, 1921 in Dowagiac, MI, the daughter of Adolph and Louise (Skibbe) Arndt. She was united in marriage to August Skibbe on August 12, 1944 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dowagiac, MI. She devoted 60 years as the secretary at the Dowagiac Union High School and was a faithful member of the Zion United Church of Christ until it closed. She loved typing, music, polkas, working in her garden and mowing the grass. Her surviving family includes her daughter Carol Modigell of Stevensville, MI and granddaughters Rhonda (Ronnie) Gorton of Atoka, TN and Sarah Modigell of Stevensville, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Elsie Arndt and a brother Leonard Arndt. Memorials may be made to the Dowagiac Area History Museum, PO Box 430, Dowagiac, MI.
