Marjorie's Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Marjorie Jean Jeffery, 80, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at Whitcomb Towers, in St Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00A.M., Monday, October 23, 2006, with Rev. Benton Heisler officiating, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Visitation is from 3:00P.M. to 5:00P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Berrien County Cancer Service or First United Methodist Church. Those wishing to send a condolence message or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Marjorie was born on November 29, 1925, in Benton Harbor, to Reynold and Janell (McCreary) Sempert and in 1944 she graduated from Benton Harbor High School. On November 12, 1945 she married Fred “Pete” Jeffery in Benton Harbor. Marjorie began her career as waitress at the House of David Beer Gardens. She retired from Tosi’s in September of 2003, after 51 years of employment. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and feeding the birds and raccoons. Marjorie loved life, and she especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marjorie is survived by her daughters – Gale Jeffery of St. Joseph, and Sherie Jeffery of St. Joseph; daughter-in-law, Jane Jeffery of St. Joseph; 4 grandchildren – Tami Hasse, Cathi Howard, Karl Kroening, and Jennifer Quack; 6 and 7/8ths great grandchildren; and brother Robert (Doris) Sempert of Tampa, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete on January 31, 1983; by her son Larry in 2001; grandson Don Kroening; and her brother Warren “Bud” Sempert.
