Michael E. Lewis

Michael Eugene Augusta-Lewis, 59, of Dowagiac passed away on October 7, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, MI. He was born May 9, 1954 in Hartford, MI to James and Mary (Alexis) Lewis. Michael was an Elder of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. He loved to watch NASCAR racing and stock cars, football, and playing his guitar. Michael’s family included: his father James W. Lewis of Benton Harbor, MI, brothers; John Pokagon of Hartford, MI, James D. Lewis and William Lewis both of Dowagiac, Richard Lewis of Cheboygan, MI, Gerry Lewis and Dale Lewis both of Elkhart, IN, and Dean Lewis of Benton Harbor, MI, sister; Dawn Rummage of Phoenix, AZ, Gail Williams of North Judson, IN, and Carol Lewis of Benton Harbor, MI, aunts; Margaret Rapp and Judy Augusta both of Dowagiac, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary, and grandparents John and Rose Augusta. The family will gather with friends Thursday October 10, 2013 at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, MI from 5:00pm until time of a prayer service at 6:30pm and where his funeral service will be held Friday October 11, 2013, at 11:00am.
