Robert D. Miskill, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Caretel Inns of Royalton. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Monday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 914 Lane Dr., St. Joseph, with The Rev. Valori Mulvey Sherer, Curate officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial of ashes at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call from 2-4 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mr. Miskill was born December 22, 1917 in Grand Rapids to James & Nellie (Cutler) Miskill. He graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School and then Ohio State University in 1943, with a major in Accounting. Immediately after graduation, Bob joined the US Army, serving during WWII as a field artillery officer in the European Theater and later as an intelligence officer in Hiroshima, Japan. After the war, Bob moved to Benton Harbor and joined the Herkner Company, an accounting firm. In 1960 he was admitted as a partner and the firm became Herkner, Smits, Miskill & Johnson. While working in Benton Harbor, Bob met Joyce Helm, and they were married August 18, 1951. Bob was active in his community and church. He served on the Fairplain School Board, was member & past president of the Twin Cities Toastmasters Club, member of the board of directors & past president and treasurer of the Benton Harbor Kiwanis Club, member and past Chairman of the Benton Township Planning Commission, Charter member of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee of Benton Harbor Area Schools, treasurer of the Berrien County Republican Finance Committee, past treasurer and vice president-director of Benton Harbor/St. Joseph YMCA, member of the St. Joseph City Board of Review, member of municipal officers compensation commission of City of St. Joseph, member and on the board of directors of Michigan Association of CPA’s, member and past chairman of Southwestern Michigan Chapter of CPA’s, and a long time member, past senior warden and treasurer of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, St. Joseph. Mr. Miskill is survived by two sons-Michael (Debby) Miskill and Jeffrey Miskill, both of St. Joseph; five grandchildren-Bobby Miskill, Carlee Maddox, Lauren Maddox,Trina Lawrence, Matthew Gilbert, great granddaughter Hailey Lawrence, all of St. Joseph; his sister Jean (Louis) Wood of Leland, MI; several nieces & nephews; two sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce on July 18, 2004, and his brother James Miskill.
