Charles's Obituary

Charles E. Engler, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30A.M., on Monday, July 31, 2006, with Rev. Thomas Batsky officiating at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial with Military Rites by Coloma American Legion Post #362, Benton Harbor VFW Post #1137 and Watervliet VFW Post #6803 will follow in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., on Sunday, July 30, 2006, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Friends may send the family a condolence message or sign the guest book on-line www.starks-menchinger.com. Charles was born to Lorenz and Louise (Heyn) Engler on July 21, 1919, in Stevensville. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in England as a Master Sergeant. Charles married Margaret Oles on July 14, 1956, in St. Joseph. Charles worked for Vail Rubber Works until he retired in 1984 and then became a member of the “Old Timers”. He enjoyed gardening & canning, Big Bands and Dixieland music. Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandpa. Charles is survived by his children, Pastor Charles R. (Lee) Engler of Benton Harbor, Robert (Sheila) Engler of Eau Claire, Betty Engler of Berrien Springs; grandchildren, Amber (Jimmy) Spenner of Berrien Springs, Susan and Katie Engler of Eau Claire and Anita Romeo of Muskegon; and great-granddaughter, Amanda Engler of Benton Harbor. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret in October 1992; and four brothers and one sister.
