Fritz Steffen

Fritz Steffen, 82, of St. Joseph, loving Husband, Father, and Opa went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 13, 2006. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church, 4333 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, with Rev. Philip Quardokus officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-5 P.M. Sunday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Fritz was born July 15, 1923 in Switzerland to Hans & Emma (Truesel) Steffen. He immigrated to the United States in 1953 settling in St. Joseph. Fritz was employed at Leco Corporation in St. Joseph from 1953 until his retirement in 1987. On April 27, 1957, he married Erika Fege in St. Joseph. Fritz was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, making many trips back to Europe to visit loved ones there. Fritz was very good with his hands, fixing anything from cars and mowers to appliances and electrical. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Fritz is survived by his wife Erika; two sons-Norman (Christi) Steffen of Havelock, NC, Harry (Rebecca) Steffen of St. Joseph; and five grandsons-Andrew, Aaron, Austin, Brian & Sean Steffen. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-Hans & Ernst Steffen.
