Lila's Obituary
Lila Schulz Godfrey, 86, of Stevensville, passed away, Friday, July 14, 2006 at Caretel Inns of Royalton.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, 1200 W. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Melanie Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call beginning at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the church. Mrs. Godfrey was born July 3, 1920 in Baroda to Herman & Clara (Schultz) Pintcke. She graduated as the Valedictorian of Bridgman High School Class of 1938. On May 4, 1941, she married August Schulz in Baroda. Together they owned and operated a farm in Berrien Springs. She was also employed at the Petite Shoppe in Benton Harbor, and the MiLady’s Shoppe in St. Joseph, from where she retired as manager, after 20 years. Her husband August preceded her in death on April 20, 1986. On February 6, 1993 she married Kenneth Godfrey. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2002. Lila was a member of Pilgrim Congregational UCC, and the Berrien Town and Country Quilters’ Guild. She received many awards for the quilts that she made and designed. Lila also played the accordion for many years for The Polka Nuts. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially the children.
Mrs. Godfrey is survived by two step-daughters Claudia (Robert) Jackson of Watervliet, Betty (Douglas) Lape of Traverse City; four step-granddaughters-Kim (Blake) Dilley of St. Joseph, Karen (Tim) Willming of Eau Claire, Anne (Ralph Shoub) Lape of Kalamazoo, Mary Lape of Kalamazoo; and three step-great-grandchildren-Ryan Alcott of St. Joseph, Taylor Willming of Eau Claire, and Graham Godfrey Lape Shoub of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews including Richard, Gerald & Alice Schinkel, and Constance Wolf. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister Ella Grau, and two brothers-Irwin Pintcke & Herman Pintcke, Jr.
