Alice L. Metz

Alice L. “Grandma” Metz, 64, of Benton Harbor, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday morning, July 12. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 15, 2006, at the Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road in St. Joseph, with Pastor Carolyn Pitts officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home between 5:00 and 8:00 P.M., Friday. Memorials may be made either to the Berrien County Cancer Service or to Hospice at Home. Alice was born on December 1, 1941 in Grand Ridge, FL. She was one of 12 children born to George and Alice Pitts. She married Herbert Metz who preceded her in death in 1995. Together they had 5 children. Alice worked at the Ponderosa Restaurant in St. Joseph for many years and served as assistant manager. She was known as ‘grandma’ to everyone there and will be dearly missed by anyone who knew her. Alice enjoyed playing BINGO and going to the Blue Chip Casino often. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grand children. Alice is survived by her children, Herbert “JR” (Michelle) of Coloma, Alice “Sis” Metz of Benton Harbor, George (Laura) Metz of Coloma, and David (Andrea) Metz of Benton Harbor; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Marty) Pitts of St. Joseph and Willie (Carol) Pitts of Albertsville, AL; and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herbert; and 9 brothers and sisters.
