Edna's Obituary

Edna Hummelberg, 98, of St Joseph, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006 at her residence. Edna passed through life gently, with a smile on her face, hope in her heart, and an unshakeable faith in God’s love for her. She was a grateful person from humble beginnings, born on a farm in Wisconsin to immigrant parents from Scandinavia, Nils & Rena (Petersen) Swanson. She was one of six children. Her parents instilled in Edna traditional values of love, charity, a strong belief in God, and a clean basement. If Edna could feed the world, she would happily do so. Her kitchen was the spiritual center of her home, and her meals were gifts of love. Edna loved her kids, her grandkids, and her great-grandkids unconditionally. She was a vivacious hostess, a hugger, and she had the unique ability to make everyone around her feel special. After retirement in Chicago, Edna moved to Stevensville. Making friends easily, she enjoyed her new home and surroundings. Edna supported her church, and she faced difficulties with strength, courage, and the power of her faith. Edna will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Edna is survived by a large and loving family including her daughter Elaine (Ted) Almgren of Huntley, IL; her son Donald (Marilyn) Hummelberg of St. Joseph; her nieces Alice, Beth, Marlene, Judy & Amy; her nephew Carlton; her wonderful grandkids Tracy (Barry) Adams, Lisa (Tom) Jacobsen, Birgit (Mark) Almgren, David (Lisa) Hummelberg, Carl (Ann) Almgren; her awesome great-grandkids Lincoln, Atticus, Brady, Elizabeth, Hunter, Julianne, Alisyn, Hannah and Little Grace. A Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 3, at Lakeshore Baptist Church, 5411 Cleveland Avenue, Stevensville, with visitation one hour prior to the service, after which her remains will be transported to Acacia Cemetery, Chicago, IL for burial next to her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeshore Baptist Church. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, MI.
