Robert's Obituary

Robert C. Farmer, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Caretel Inns of Royalton.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., at First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco, Ct., St. Joseph, on Thursday, July 6, 2006, with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph, on Wednesday, July 5, 2006. Memorial donations may be made to Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation or First United Methodist Church. Robert was born to Jesse and Florence (Council) Farmer on December 31, 1918, in Springfield, IL. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1937 and attended Western Michigan University. He served as a Special Services Officer in the United States Army for four years during World War II. Bob married Jane Foley on July 24, 1943 in Benton Harbor. He retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 34 years of employment. Bob was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. He also raised, trained and judged field trial dogs. He was active in the Whirlpool and Berrien County Sportman’s Clubs. Bob was an avid sportsman and accomplished high school and college athlete who spent many years coaching youth baseball. In the early 1940s Bob was a member of the House of David home baseball team. In his later years Bob enjoyed cooking, photography and particularly enjoyed being with his three grandchildren and following their activities. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of St.Joseph.Robert is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Robert (Susan) Farmer II and David Farmer of Key West, FL; and grandchildren, Matt Farmer of St. Joseph, Amy Farmer of Aurora, CO, and Erin Farmer of Fort Collins, CO.Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother in law, Margaret and Edward Troffer; and his brother in law, Tom Foley.
