Antonie “Toni”Pfeifer, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, March 31, 2006 at Caretel Inns of Royalton from Kidney Failure. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Carl Pagel officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Run Cemetery in Scottdale. Friends may call from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Michigan Kidney Foundation. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mrs. Pfeifer was born January 1, 1932 in Volhynia to Robert & Lydia (Peno) Schalin. On August 5, 1956 she married Eduard Pfeifer in Bottrop, Germany. They moved to the United States in 1958 and settled in St. Joseph. Toni was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, D.A.N.K. and St. Joe Kickers Club. Both Toni and Ed enjoyed camping, gardening, and being out of doors. Toni received an award from the National Kidney Foundation for being the longest surviving transplant recipient in Southwestern Michigan. Toni is survived by her husband Eduard; her daughter Sylvia S. Pfeifer of St. Joseph; two brothers-Richard (Elsa) Schalin of Peine, Germany, Reinhold (Marga) Schalin of Geldern, Germany; and her sister Gertrude “Trudi” (Heinz) Venmann of Kevelaer, Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters-Linda Schalin & Brigette Wachsmann.
