Carl K. Brooks, 83, of Benton Harbor, MI, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 15, 2006. Arrangements have been entrusted with Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2:00 p.m., at the Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, MI. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 18, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service. Friends wishing to leave a message of condolence, or to sign the family guestbook, may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Carl was born October 19, 1922, in Anderson, IN, to Charles and Mildred (Helblig) Brooks. He served in the U.S. Navel Air Force for six years. On November 18, 1948, in Anderson, IN, he married Sally Pauline McCreary. Carl was an avid airplane enthusiast. He built his own airplane at age 73. Carl was assistant manager of the Watervliet Airport; a member of the EAA of Watervliet: a member of the Barfing Dogs of Buchanan; and a member of the Masonic Lodge of St. Joseph. He is survived by his wife, Sally; his son, Mel (Judy) Brooks of Hartford; two grandchildren, Andrea and Tracey; two great grandchildren, Jason and Abby; a sister, Francis; a sister-in-law, June Brooks of Petersburg, IN; and a number of nieces and nephews. Carl is preceded in death by his parents-Charles and Mildred, a sister-Matha Jones, and a brother-Robert Brooks.
