Chester's Obituary

Chester Richter, 80, of Benton Harbor, passed away Monday, January 02, 2006 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor James Biffert officiating. Entombment will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God, St. Joseph. Mr. Richter was born November 19, 1925 in Indiana Harbor, Indiana to Stanley & Anna (Petroskie) Richter. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army. On November 3, 1951, he married the former Dorothy Bish in Benton Harbor. Chet was employed for thirty-seven years at Anstey Foundry in Stevensville, retiring in 1989. He and Dorothy enjoyed fishing on Paw Paw Lake and in his spare time he enjoyed making wind chimes. Mr. Richter is survived by his wife Dorothy; his sister Stella Dehn of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nephews & nieces-George (Margaret) Richter of Coloma, Barbara (Bill) Fredricks of Benton Harbor, Marilyn Richter of St. Joseph, Harry (Candy) Richter of Stevensville, Veronica (Ladd) Wilson of Coloma, and Larry Richter of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers-Frank, Harry Paul & George Richter, a sister Mary Watters, and a niece Millie Mammina.
