Nancy's Obituary

Nancy Hocker, 75, of Benton Township died Monday, January 2, 2006, at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 6, 2006, with Father Bill Jacobs, Jr. officiating at St. John Catholic Church, 600 Columbus, Benton Harbor. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Benton Harbor. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday; with Prayers at 7:30 P.M. at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial donations may be made to the Readiness Center. Nancy was born January 28, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to Ray and Hannah (Worsfold) Null. She married Robert J. Hocker, Jr., on June 24, 1950, in St. John Catholic Church, in Benton Harbor. In the early 80’s she bought and managed the Hocker-Fricke Insurance Agency until her retirement in 1997. Nancy was very active in the community, including the Readiness Center and the Altar Guild at St. John Catholic Church. Nancy was a Sorority sister of Kappa Theta Chi. Nancy is survived by her son Bill (Sandy) Hocker of Stevensville; daughters Nancy Summerfelt of St. Joseph, and Cindy (David) Hocker-Lange of Perrysburg, Ohio; eight grandchildren – Lisa Summerfelt, Andrew Summerfelt, Todd Hocker, Hannah Lange, Helen Lange, Cora Lange Molly Hocker, Griffin Hocker; sisters Mary McClellan of Lansing, Renny (Tom) Boylen of Grand Rapids, Deb (Mike) Wolf of Sussex, England; brother Ray (Louise) Null of Grand Rapids; and daughter-in-law Ruth Hocker of St. Joseph. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1996, daughter Mary Elizabeth in 1962, son Robert, III in 1967, and son Chris in 2002.
