Marjorie's Obituary
Marjorie Ann Smith, 83, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, October 21, 2005, at Jordan’s Nursing Home in Bridgman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25 at the Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road in St. Joseph with Fr. Jonathan Christian officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Visitation will be Monday between 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Marjorie was born November 1, 1921 in St. Joseph. She was one of three children born to Clarence & Mary Maisner. On Valentine’s Day 1944, she married Donald K. Smith in Millburg, MI. To this union was born 6 children. Marjorie was a nurse serving in the Army Air Corps. and later worked at both Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor and Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Birthright, and the OCDS Carmelite – the Holy Hill Secular Order. She was also an enthusiastic participant in Relay for Life and was the Social Director at Lakeview Highrise. Marjorie loved sewing and crocheting. Most important to her was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Hal (Sharon) Smith of Gainsville, FL, Charles (Beth) Smith of St. Joseph, Beth Kraiger of Coloma, Laura (Randy) Newton of Allegan, and Christine (William) Kurland of Tuscan, AZ; son-in-law Fred Kinsel of Glendora; 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald K. Smith; daughter, Polly Kinsel; son-in-law, Ken Kraiger; sister, Mary Stroba; and a brother, Joseph Maisner.
