Leonard D. Adams

Leonard D. Adams, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, August 15, 2005 at Buchanan Meadows Hospice in Buchanan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Nancy Humes of Riverview Park Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma with military rites conducted by Coloma American Legion Post #362, VFW Post #1137 of Benton Harbor, and VFW Post #6803 of Watervliet. Friends may call from 10-11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Leonard was born October 21, 1914 in Benton Harbor to Samuel & Mary (Smalland) Adams. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1932. Leonard served his country in the US Army, stationed in the Guadal Canal during WWII. On February 24, 1945, he married the former Phyllis Grande at Peace Temple United Methodist Church in Benton Harbor. They shared 60 years of marriage before her passing on May 11, 2005. Leonard was employed at New Products Corporation for 34 years before his retirement on March 23, 1984. Leonard enjoyed bowling, traveling, and dancing. He and Phyllis? favorite dance spot was the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Leonard is survived by a sister-in-law Beverly Grande Phillips of Gainesville, FL; cousins-Mary McLeod of Gainesville, Richard (Barbara) Grande of Benton Harbor, Joyce (Herbert) Gould Clements of Parrish, FL, Paula (David) Clements Howley of Coloma, David Clements of Parrish, FL; and close friends-Robert ?Skip? (Gloria) Swedenberg Donna (Robert) Russ, and Betty (Richard) Adams. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-Arthur Adams & Al Dasse, and a cousin Gloria Young.
