Robert's Obituary

Robert Frederic Weinhardt of Dowagiac, MI, was born December 24, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY, and passed away suddenly on May 9, 2013. He graduated from Midwood High School in Brooklyn in June 1957. He then enlisted for military service and served honorably in the United States Army from 1957-1960. He was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Ill, where he met his wife, Jeannette L. Witteveen. They were married on February 6, 1960 at Ridge Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chicago, Ill. Bob was very involved in the Chicago Ridge Volunteer Fire Department From 1967 – 1971. He was employed by Nabisco Company in Chicago. He retired after 26 years and spent his retirement years at his lake-front home in Dowagiac. His hobbies included gardening and boating. He was an avid collector with many interests. He was also a sports fan, whose favorite teams included the Brooklyn Dodgers , Chicago Cubs, and any team his grandson played on Minnesota Vikings, and the Chicago Bulls, especially during the Jordan era. He had a great love of the sport of baseball that he got from his father and has passed this love to his children, grandchildren and now great grandson. His parents, Henry and Adele Weinhardt preceded him in death.He is survived by his wife of 53 years Jeannette L. (Witteveen) Weinhardt of Dowagiac, MI. Children: Diana (Dean)Treangen of Farmington, MN, William (Cathy) Weinhardt of Pearl City, HI; five grandchildren: Kelsey (Eric) Sullivan of Pearland, TX, Robbie (Jennifer) Weinhardt of Pearland, TX; Eric and Jacob Weinhardt and Lindsie Mcnally of Pearl City, HI, and one great-grand child, Ethan Sullivan, He also has one brother, Donald (Carol) Weinhardt of Webster, MA, and a sister-in-law, Ginger (Witteveen) Hayes of Holland, MI.A Celebration of Life will be held at Yazel & Clark Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, on Wednesday May 22 at 1 P.M. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Wayne Cemetery, Dowagiac.
