Viola's Obituary

Viola M. Derringer, 84, formerly of Flint & Traverse City, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Caretel Inns of Royalton in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Viola will be laid to rest at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Friends may call from 9-10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the St. Joseph Seventh-day Adventist Church. Mrs. Derringer was born December 8, 1920 in Superior, Wisconsin to Lloyd & Eletha (Potter) McCall. On June 18, 1939, she married Cecil Derringer in Flint. Viola was employed as a secretary for the City of Flint, working in the health department & housing commission, retiring after 20 years of employment. She moved to Stevensville in 1992 from Interlochen, and most recently had lived at Whitcomb Tower in St. Joseph. Viola was a member of the Stevensville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her church was very important and a big part of her life, as was her family, especially her grandchildren. Viola enjoyed cross-stitching and baking. Her family said she made the best cakes & pies. Mrs. Derringer is survived by her son Cecil (Linda) Derringer of St. Joseph; her daughter Johann (Don) Dyresen of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren-Andra (Kevin) Lambrecht, Greg Derringer, Megan Dyresen, Erica Dyresen; two great-grandchildren-Kylee Lambrecht & Eddie Landon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cecil in 1984 and her sister Charlotte Knight in 2002
