Helen's Obituary
Helen A. Hartwig, 86, of Allegan, Michigan, formerly of Wickenburg, Arizona and Benton Harbor, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2005, while visiting in Shipshewana, Indiana.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dan Miller officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The German Branch Bethel Park in Bridgman. Helen was born to John and Emma (Frank) Schutze on February 14, 1919, in Benton Harbor. She married Adolph Hartwig on July 4, 1936, in Benton Harbor and pursued a fulfilling life as a devoted wife, homemaker, and loving mother. She also worked with her husband on the family farms in Baroda and Eau Claire. After retirement she moved to Fairplain and then in 1996 she moved to Arizona. Helen and her husband Adolph were long time members of the First Assembly of God, and after moving to Arizona, Helen was a volunteer at Ladies White Cross of Calvary Baptist Church in Wickenburg.
Helen is survived by her children- David Hartwig of St. Joseph, MI, Carole (William) Bradbury of Allegan, MI, Allen (Judy) Hartwig of Clinton, MI, and Steven (Sherree) Hartwig of Benton Harbor, MI; eight grandchildren Dawn Baker, Deann Miller, Dean Priebe, Andy Hartwig, Sarah Covington, Megan Hartwig, Kristin Hartwig and Chad Hartwig; eleven great-grandchildren; sister Ann Wesner of St. Joseph; and brother Ed (Betty) Wesner of St. Joseph.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Reinhold Wesner; husband Adolph in August 1985; sisters- Eleanor Checchi, Ruth Cavanaugh.
