Margaret J. Cheevers

Margaret J. Cheevers, 83, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 1 at St. John?s Catholic Church, 600 Columbus Ave. in Benton Harbor with Fr. William Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may call Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service at 7:30 P.M. at the Kerley-Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, MI. Memorials may be made to either St. John-St. Bernard Parish or a memorial of donor?s choice. Margaret was born on June 6, 1921 in Benton Harbor to William and Mary (O?Brien) Broderick. She was one of 4 children and a life-long resident of the twin-cities area. She was a graduate of St. John?s High School. On November 29, 1947 she married William J. Cheevers at St. John?s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. To this union was born 4 children. She worked with her husband for many years on the family farm in Benton Township. Margaret is survived by her children, William T. (Christine) Cheevers of Grand Rapids, Jean M. Cheevers of Benton Harbor, and Patrick E. (Sandra) Cheevers of St. Joseph; 8 grandchildren, Traci (Ryan) Smith, Ryan (Kari Koch, fianc?e), Corey, Michael, Kylie, Daniel, Cara, and Caitlin Cheevers; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Smith; and her sister Mary (Virgil ?Dick?) Mc Clure of Orlando, Florida. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, William; a son, Dennis Cheevers; a brother, Edward Broderick; and a sister, Agnes Broderick.
