Kerstin A. Johnson

Kerstin Johnson, 86, of Benton Harbor, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Caretel Inns of Royalton in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco Ct., St. Joseph with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call from 3-5 P.M. Sunday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church. She came to the United States when she was 8 years old, settling in Pasadena, CA. She also lived in Arizona and finally Chicago before moving to St. Joseph. On October 18, 1952, she married Eric T. Johnson in St. Joseph. Kerstin worked as a housekeeper for many families in the area. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Kerstin enjoyed crossword puzzles and many modern things that people of her generation would not even be interested in such as rock & roll music and reality TV. She had a great sense of humor and never complained, even in her last days. Kerstin is survived by her son Ted Johnson of Benton Harbor; her daughter Ruth Hocker of St. Joseph; two step-grandchildren Molly & Griffin Hocker of Altamonte Springs, FL; and a sister Elaine Anderson of Bridgeview, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eric on February 9, 1979, and her son-in-law Chris Hocker on August 4, 2002.
