Bernadette J. Mckittrick

Bernadette McKittrick, 95, of Benton Harbor, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2005 at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 22, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church, 555 Delaware, Benton Harbor, with Fr. Bill Jacobs officiating. Burial will take place in Tower Hill Cemetery, Tower Hill, IL. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home, Lake Michigan Catholic Schools or Woodland Terrace Activities Fund. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. (with Liturgical prayers at 7:45) at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. She earned a Master?s Degree in Speech Pathology, and enjoyed a rewarding 39 year career that included teaching at Benton Harbor Public Schools and Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. She retired in 1976. In 1974 she married James E. McKittrick who preceded her in 1983. Bernadette was a member of the Krasl Art Center, the National Association of Speech Pathologists, the Benton Harbor Teachers Union and the Y.W.C.A. She was an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal, and loved playing the stock market as much as she loved playing Bridge. She also was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bulls. Bernadette is survived by two nieces?Mary Ruth Writz of Joliet, IL and Linda Hill of Marshville. WI. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Writz, her half-sister, Margaret Borchers Eggleston and her half-brother, James Borchers. She will be greatly missed by all.
