Madeline's Obituary
Madeline DiMaggio, 89, loving mother and grandmother, died peacefully in her home on Sunday morning. Owner of DiMaggio’s Pizza, Lake Michigan Beach, since 1957, Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, Tony DiMaggio, in 1986. They were married April 30, 1938 in Chicago. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 3, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 E. Deleware, Benton Harbor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Watervliet. The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home. Liturgical prayers and the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan. Madeline was born January, 11, 1916, in Coloma, Mi. to Isadore and Josephine (Gelino) Sorce and was preceded in death by her sisters, Mayme Serpe, Lillian Mammina, Francine Capoccia, Mary Butera, and Jenny Sorce; and her brothers Paul and Joe Sorce. Survivors include two sons, Vincent (Arlene) DiMaggio of Watervliet and Isadore DiMaggio of Coloma; two daughters Ms. Margie DiMaggio of Indian Wells, CA. and Ms. Josie DiMaggio Little of Benton Harbor; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Wood, Anthony, Amy and Joe DiMaggio, Jason and Tony Little, Dani (Ed) Broderick, Jr., and Madeline DiMaggio; four great grandchildren, Jordan and Tayler Wood and T.J. and Lily Broderick. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Madeline was a devoted, caring, fun-loving, generous and beautiful woman with a heart of gold. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She lived for her children and grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. She loved spending time with the loyal employees and customers at the restaurant, and she especially loved little children everywhere.
