Ethel Ruggles

Ethel Ruggles, 92, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2005 in Mesa, AZ. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with Rev. Jon Bendewald officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials in her name may be made to Animal Aid. On October 5, 1940 she married Constant ?Barney? Ruggles who preceded her in 1996. Together they owned and operated Ruggles Hardware in Benton Harbor for over 25 years. Ethel enjoyed her fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse. She worked for local industries such as Whirlpool, Auto Specialties and Michigan Standard Alloys. Ethel was a charter member of the St. Joseph High School Honors Society, and also a lifetime member of the Michigan Nurse?s Association. She was past president of the Benton Harbor ? St. Joseph Professional Women?s Club and generously volunteered her time to the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. Ethel is survived by her daughters -Dottie (Dick) Gietler of Mesa, AZ, and Cheryl Grega of Ann Arbor, MI; her son – Harry (Pam) Ruggles of Columbus, OH and four grandchildren – Ann, Christopher, Tia, and Carly.
