Bruce Daniel ?Bruno? Zech, 49, of Benton Harbor, went to meet his Lord & Savior, Friday, February 18, 2005, as the result of an excavating accident.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Link Crisis Intervention Center. Bruce was born November 28, 1955 in St. Joseph to Herbert Henry & Elizabeth Jean (Schulz) Zech. He graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1974. On July 28, 1979, Bruce married the former Patricia ?Patty? Castello in Buchanan. Bruce worked in the excavating business ever since high school. He started with Woodruff Excavating, then Mid-City Excavating, both in Michigan City. Nearly 20 years ago, Bruce formed a partnership with Bruce Binger in B & Z Excavating, of Benton Harbor, of which he was the president. Most important to Bruce were his family & many friends. He enjoyed camping and other family events. Bruce enjoyed his friends. He was always willing to help anybody & everybody in whatever they needed. Bruce was very innovative. He designed and built many devices which where used in his excavating business. Bruce was a member of the N.R.A., Benton Harbor Moose Lodge, & Harley Owners Group. He enjoyed collecting bottles, shot glasses, and Civil War Memorabilia. Bruce also enjoyed woodworking & music; and was a certified diver. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bruce is survived by his wife Patty; two sons-Nicholas Alan Zech & Tyler Steven Zech, both at home; three brothers-Mark Zech of Millburg, Rodney (Lynda) Zech of Berrien Springs, Craig Zech of Houston, TX; two sisters-Debra (Danny) Kauffman of Eau Claire, Tresa Zech of Sodus; many nieces & nephews, & friends.
