Frederick's Obituary
Frederick William Born, III, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, January 21, 2005 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, 914 Lane Dr., St. Joseph with Mother DeLiza Spangler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund. Mr. Born was born June 26, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois to Frederick W., Jr. & Gertrude (Jeffrey) Born. He graduated from Danville High School in 1935 in Danville, IL. Fred and his parents owned and operated the Times Theatre in Rossville, Illinois; and also showed traveling films in Central Illinois from 1935 until 1941, when Fred joined the military. Fred served his country during WWII in the United States Army. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Signal Corp. where he worked as a Motion Picture Operator and Sound Recorder. While in the service in London, England, he met Joan Dipple. They were married June 26, 1943 in London. They returned to the United States and Fred attended the University of Illinois where he received his bachelor?s degree in Industrial Engineering. Fred worked for U.S. Rubber in Mishawaka before moving to the twin cities in 1952, where he worked for The Voice of Music Corporation. He left V-M in 1973 as Quality Control Manager and Division Head. Fred moved to Hoopston, Illinois and spent the next several years employed by CBS owned Gulbransen Organ Co. in Hoopeston, before retiring in 1982. He spent the next 22 years tinkering and spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. Fred is survived by his wife Joan; two sons-Christopher Born of Tampa, FL; Dr. Frederick W. IV (Kathy) Born of Berrien Springs; a daughter-Victoria (Greg Powell) Born of St. Joseph; six grandchildren-Erik, Carina, Frederick V, & Alexander Born; Peter & Rosemary Born-Powell; and a sister Gwendolyn A. Jeske of Decatur, Illinois.
