Herbert's Obituary
Herbert D. Mendel, 82, of Miami Beach, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Miami Beach.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Temple B’Nai Shalom, 2050 Broadway, Benton Harbor. Officiating will be Rabbi Michael Rascoe, with burial to follow at Temple Beth EL Cemetery. Local arrangements handled by Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, St. Joseph.
He was born on May 5, 1922, in Chicago, to Arthur and Edith (Goldberg) Mendel. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was the founder of Michigan Standard Alloys of Benton Harbor.
Survivors include his wife, Audre (Deckmann) Mendel of Miami Beach, Fla.; daughter, Julie Mendel of Florida; stepson, Philip Higgins of Tennessee; and a sister, Shirley Simon of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edwin Mendel.
