Thomas F. Bartley, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away, Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Jordan?s Nursing Home in Bridgman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph, with Fr. Thomas Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5-7 P.M Friday with Liturgical Prayers recited at 7:00 P.M. at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Tom was born September 3, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Frank & Katherine (Kerrigan) Bartley. On January 28, 1938 he married the former Jeannette Lishawa in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tom served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He was employed by Whirlpool Corporation beginning in 1955, retiring in 1977 as general manager of sales training. Following his retirement, Tom wintered in Arizona where he taught marketing for seven years at Arizona State University. Tom was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; the American Legion; and an avid Notre Dame fan. He was a co-founder of the St. Joseph Pony Baseball League in the 1950?s. Tom will not be remembered by his success and failures, but rather by the number of lives he touched, laughter he created, and the those he stood beside when their need was the greatest.
Tom is survived by three sons-Michael (Debi) Bartley of New Florence, PA; Terrance Bartley of Portland, MI; James (Diane) Bartley of Stevensville; seven grandchildren-Brian, Brett, Becky, Kevin, Katie, Rochelle, Heather; three great-grandchildren-Gavin, Myles, & Liam; and a brother-Joseph (Anne) Bartley of Dix Hills, NY. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette on October 31, 1990; a sister Helen Pritchard; and three brothers-Frank, Larry, & Jack Bartley.
