Emma Nelson

Emma Nelson, 98, of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2005, at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 11:00 A.M. at Oakridge Baptist Church, 766 Oakridge Dr., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dave Broome officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac, Michigan. Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, January 12, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. at Kerley-Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Oakridge Baptist Church. Emma was born on April 18, 1906 to Frank and Emma (Gratzol) Kardos in South Bend, Indiana. Emma married Stephan Csicsis in 1924 he then preceded her in death in 1927. Emma then married Floyd Nelson in 1930 and they were married for more then forty years. Emma enjoyed making Afghans and made more then two hundred in her life time. Emma also enjoyed taking long walks. Emma is survived by her children Rose Kerr of St. Joseph and Dr. Floyd (Louise) Nelson of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren-Betsy Reif of St. Joseph, Julia (Phillip) Wolf of St. Joseph, and Heather (Ralph) Pinney of Apex, North Carolina; great-grandchildren-Carrie and Emily Reif of St. Joseph, Sami and Andy Pinney of Apex, and Jackie Lynn and Nicole Holland of Tennessee; and sister Rose Wing of Cadillac. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Stephan and her second husband Floyd; one sister; two brothers; son in law Dr. Robert Kerr on January 3, 2004 of St. Joseph; and granddaughter Holly Lynn Holland of Tennessee.
