Goldie's Obituary
Goldie M. Burkepile, 93, of St. Joseph, went to meet her Lord & Savior on Monday, October 4, 2004 at her home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Burkepile was born September 15, 1911 in Warsaw, Indiana to Harvey & Elsie (Rupert) Daisy. She owned & operated The Rifle Sport Arcade at Silver Beach Amusement Park in St. Joseph. It was there that she met Ivan Burkepile, who owned & operated Atlantic City Salt Water Taffy. The married on November 11, 1961 in St. Joseph, and together, continued to operate Atlantic City Salt Water Taffy for many years. Goldie, when not working, enjoyed tending to her family at home.
Mrs. Burkepile is survived by her husband Ivan; her son Mathew G. ?Bud? Schlutt; her sister Mae Likes of Roswell, NM; and many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by two husbands-Mathew G. Brozwick & Chester C. Schlutt; three sisters-Florence Nelson, Lela Jenkins, Dorothy Scudder; and three brothers-Lawrence Daisy, Howard Daisy, and Carl Igert.
